Grumpys Garage

About Grumpy’s and our obsession with Muscle Cars

Lance Bessette, owner and operator of Grumpy’s, has been working under the hood of American muscle cars for over 30 years, where he specialized in general mechanics and transmissions. He got into modifying muscle cars because of his love of speed and fast cars. He has worked with some of the top professionals in the field. Lance has also worked on round round cars for oval track racing.

Lance’s personal set of wheels is a highly modified 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was featured in Chevy Hi-Performance magazine. The car, which Lance modified himself, gets 540 horsepower from a Merlin 509 engine and lays down an 11.4 second quarter mile. Oh, and it’s street legal.

Lance got the name for Grumpy’s when his granddaughter gave him a handmade sign that said “Grumpy’s Garage,” because Lance gets grumpy when he doesn’t get what he wants. What does he want? “No second-hand parts, no second-hand work.”
